Bhaktapur, Feb 12: Lawmakers from Bhaktapur have called on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli not to sign any agreement going against the interest of the country during his upcoming India visit.
The previous Prime Ministers failed to live up to their promises to the people and struck the bilateral deals with India which ultimately proved to be against the national interest, Nepal Workers and Peasants Party's Prem Suwal said, calling on the Prime Minister not to repeat such mistake under any cost during his visit to the southern neighbour.
He accused India of not accepting Nepal's sovereignty and intending to seize Nepal's water with the practice of oil politics. The probability was still high that India could repeat its blockade on the country. Demand for a separate Madhes province and delineation of electoral constituencies on the basis of population was the agenda of India not the Madhes, he argued.
Suwal was speaking at an Integrated Plan Formulation Workshop for the Fiscal Year 2073-74 BS organised by the District Development Committee Bhaktapur.
CPN (UML)'s Kedar Sanjel and NWPP Anuradha Thapa Magar said they were confident that the Prime Minister would not strike any deal with India going against interests of the country. They demanded the government carry out the reconstruction of the earthquake-damaged structures and hold the long-stalled local poll as soon as possible.
On the occasion, Chief District Office Tej Prasad Poudel, Local Development Officer Pashupati Babu Puri and other political leaders stressed that people's choice be focused while formulating and implementing development projects.
On the occasion government and non government offices in the district presented the details of annual projects and plans.
