Call for focusing PM India visit on improving bilateral ties

Kathmandu, Feb 12: Political parties in the Legislature-Parliament have called on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to give priority to matters relating to the interests of the country during his upcoming India visit.

In an all-party meeting organised Friday by the Prime Minister at his official residence Baluwatar, leaders urged the Prime Minister not to strike any deal or treaty going against the interests of the nation during the visit taking place on the backdrop of uneasiness seen in the bilateral ties.

Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to embark on his first six-day state visit to India beginning from February 19. The Prime Minister has intensified political consultations to determine the agenda for the visit.
Talking to media after the meeting, Nepali Congress Acting President Ramchandra Poudel said the meeting focused on improving the bilateral relations with keeping the interests of the nation at top priority.

Likewise, Minister for Law, Justice and Federal Affairs Agni Kharel shared that leaders present in the meeting suggested that Prime Minister should focus his goodwill visit to the southern neighbour on improving and normalizing the bilateral ties.

A meeting of the Legislature-Parliament scheduled for February 16 is expected to discuss on the agenda about the Prime Minister's India visit.
UCPN (Maoist) Spokesperson Dinanath Sharma said the PM organised the all-party meeting in a bid to make his visit successful.
Former Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand briefed the media that the meeting centered on how to make the visit fruitful and improve the bilateral ties.
